Snapchat has announced today that users will be able to send gifs to each other across the platform.
But WhatsApp users have been enjoying that feature since 2016.
After all, nothing keeps a conversation ticking along like an expertly-deployed gif and, thankfully, there are millions to choose from.
Gifs are short looping video clips or animations typically lasting about five seconds. Thanks to online catalogues like Giphy, they can be searched through based on keywords.
For when you need that perfect reaction.
Here’s how to send a gif on WhatsApp:
Use your camera roll
- Click on the “+” button and select Photo and Video Library to get to your camera roll
- Find the small magnifying glass (bottom left) with the word GIF
- Select this and you’ll see a row of gif images
- You can browse through or search with keywords to find what you want.
Send from Giphy
To get access to Giphys vast library of gifs, you’ll need to download its app from the App Store. If you’re using an Android phone, it can also be found on Google Play.
Once it’s installed, change the keyboard in WhatsApp to the new Giphy keyboard (use the icon you’d normally use to switch to the emoji keyboard) and you’ll see plenty of gifs to choose from.
Both of these methods ensure you’ll never be short of a timely gif when you need a quick comeback to a friend or family member on WhatsApp.
